For the past four years, Woking Tigers has proudly managed the Sheerwater Youth Centre. When we first arrived, the site was little known and rarely used. We spent months clearing and refreshing the space, bringing it back to life for the community.
Since then, the centre has become a vibrant hub of activity. We run open-access youth nights twice a week for ages 11–18, alongside fortnightly girls-only sessions, all completely free of charge. During school holidays, we have hosted activity camps for younger children, helping families access fun and affordable opportunities locally.
The centre has also opened its doors to others. Community groups, families and charities now regularly use the space for their activities. We’ve proudly supported other local organisations with free or low-cost access, helping them continue their own valuable work in serving the community.
Our vision is to keep growing. We are now developing a nursery on-site that will accept government-funded places, expanding opportunities for families and early years learning. We aim to increase youth provision to five nights a week, offer dedicated summer camps, reintroduce community programmes such as soup kitchens and launch educational mentoring and support sessions. The centre will remain open for community bookings, ensuring it continues to serve as a welcoming space for all.
Just like with Alpha Recreation Ground, our commitment is long-term. We want to invest in the site and maintain it with care. The Sheerwater Youth Centre has already become a cornerstone for youth work, outreach and education. Together with Alpha Rec, it forms the beating heart of our community.
