About Us

Woking Tigers began in 1992, founded by Mohammed Farooq, who continues to serve as our Chairman today. What began as a small community cricket team soon grew into something much bigger. The Club’s name was inspired by the spirit of the 1992 Pakistan World Cup team, known as “The Cornered Tigers”, whose determination and resilience captured hearts around the world.

In 2010, we ventured into football, forming our first adult team, coached and captained by Mohammed Farooq himself. The team continues to thrive today, giving many locals their first opportunity to experience adult football.

Our passion for creating community opportunities soon expanded further. In 2012, we launched our own T20 cricket league, bringing players of all ages together for friendly but competitive matches, even inspiring a few old, local favourites to dust off their bats and return to the game.

By 2017, we recognised the need for more youth opportunities in the area and took the bold step into youth football. In doing so, we also helped revive the long-unused Alpha Recreation Ground, turning it back into a hub of energy and activity. Within weeks, more than 100 children were attending sessions, and the programme has continued to flourish ever since.

After becoming an incorporated charity in 2021, Woking Tigers grew significantly, offering a wide range of services and activities designed to meet the evolving needs of our community. In the same year, we took on the management of the Sheerwater Youth Centre, expanding our work to include open-access youth sessions, holiday camps and annual retreats that give young people new experiences and friendships.

Our work has continued to grow, from girls football, ladies basketball and yoga to other female-led activities that encourage participation and confidence. Through our community arm, we’ve also partnered with local organisations to deliver food packs, run fundraising events and support those most in need.

Hundreds of people benefit from our programmes each year. Beyond this, our charitable efforts have raised and donated tens of thousands of pounds to local and international causes.

More than three decades on, what began with one team has become a family that continues to grow, serve and inspire.
